Columbia Eve Fest is right around the corner! Plan to “Color Your Dreams in 2016!” Come join us for a New Year’s Eve celebration on December 31st, 2015 from 7:00 to Midnight in The District of downtown Columbia, MO! We have some amazing entertainment coming in and are excited to have lots of ideas colorfully transforming into a wonderful event for YOU!
Our safe and convenient footprint in the closed off block of 9th Street between Elm and Locust encourages the celebratory spirit of the New Year as our participants joyously travel from venue to venue. We will continue this year with the same pathway utilizing the many, beautiful, fun venues throughout the Missouri Theatre, the Rooftop Star Gazing Venue, the 7 venues within the Missouri United Methodist Church, and the 9th Street Stage. The 5K Run/Walk kicks off at 4:00 in front of Cyclextreme, doors to the Venues open at 6:30, Entertainment begins at 7:00.
…some of the fun coming this year, December 31st, 2015…
Jordan Wax & Lone Pinon!
“Along with northern New Mexican music, Lone Pinon has a love of regional son from Veracruz, Mexico. Son huasteco is traditionally played by three musicians – violin, huapanguera (five-course, eight-string bass/guitar), and a jarana huasteca (small, high-pitched jarana). It’s an incredible music form that features virtuosic fiddling that flies over wonderfully esoteric strumming patterns and bass runs in 6/8. The singing is characterized by its joyful and mournful high male falsetto.”
“Son huasteco is manifested in communities through dances or “fandangos,” gatherings of the community with musicians, dancers, neighbors, friends, food and drink.”
Jordan just recently returned from his first Fiddlers Without Borders, campaign trip while studying regional fiddling in the Mayan village of Acteal, Chiapas, Mexico and throughout other regions of Mexico.
Lone Piñon is:
Jordan Wax: Fiddle Cantante
Greg Glassman: Guitar, Cantante
Noah Martinez: Guitarron, Double Bass
“Armed with hot jazz tunes and heartfelt stories…”They had me breathless…this show is as authentic and charming as its stars.” Though much of their style circles around hot jazz of the Prohibition Era and Great Depression, Victor and Penny’s music tends to stay on the sunny side of these dark times.”
